Jose Mourinho: 'Manchester United could struggle for top-six spot'

Jose Mourinho says that Manchester United will struggle to finish in the top six in the Premier League this season.

Jose Mourinho has claimed that his former club Manchester United will struggle to finish in the top six in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils have won two, drawn two and lost two of their six league fixtures this season to sit eighth in the table, with their latest defeat coming away to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

The 20-time English champions have not finished lower than sixth in the top flight since 2013-14, but Mourinho doubts whether the team will be able to end the campaign as one of the top six sides.

"I think they are going to be in trouble not just to get into the top four but potentially the top six... I think this team is worse than the team of last season," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

The experienced manager, who remains without a position, was sacked by the Red Devils last December following a poor start to the 2018-19 campaign.

United will now switch their attention to the EFL Cup as they prepare to host Rochdale on Wednesday night, before returning to Premier League action at home to Arsenal on September 30.
