Marcus Rashford could reportedly be given the chance to play as a centre-forward during Manchester United's pre-season.

Marcus Rashford could reportedly be given the chance to mark as a centre-forward during Manchester United's preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.

The 24-year-old found it difficult to impress last term, scoring just five times and registering two assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the England international's future over the last few months, with his current deal at Old Trafford due to expire next June.

Man United have the option of activating a 12-month extension, though, and the England international is believed to be in the plans of new head coach Erik ten Hag.

Rashford largely played as a right-sided attacker during the 2021-22 campaign, while he also had spells off the left during a difficult season.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, the Englishman could be trialled through the middle during the club's pre-season preparations.

Man United will sign a new forward this summer, with Edinson Cavani leaving on a free transfer, while Anthony Martial could also be on his way out of the club in the upcoming market.

Should the Red Devils fail to bring in a new striker before the start of pre-season then Rashford could be used in that area of the field against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The 20-time English champions will travel to Bangkok, Melbourne, Perth and Oslo this summer as part of their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.

Ten Hag said last week that Man United are due to officially begin pre-season training on June 27, although those involved for their countries next month will return at a later date.

Rashford has not been included in the latest England squad, though, and faces a battle to be included for the 2022 World Cup, as he is down the pecking order for the Three Lions.

The Man United academy product has scored 93 goals and registered 57 assists in 303 appearances for his current side since making his debut in 2015.

Rashford scored four goals and registered two assists in 25 Premier League appearances last term, in addition to contributing one goal in five Champions League outings.

The forward missed the start of the reason recovering from a shoulder problem, while he did not feature in the club's final two matches of the campaign due to illness.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Man United failing to qualify for next season's Champions League, having finished sixth in last season's Premier League.

However, the 37-year-old, who scored 24 goals last season, is widely expected to remain in Manchester for next term, with Ten Hag said to be determined to keep hold of the Portugal international.
