Wayne Rooney has insisted that Manchester United will get their money's worth if they land Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire.
The Red Devils have reportedly been told to pay in excess of £80m for the 26-year-old, which would see him overtake Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk as the costliest defender in the world.
United are desperate to strengthen at the back, but they are running out of time to reach an agreement with Leicester and it has been suggested that they may now look elsewhere, with Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti an alternative option.
Rooney believes that his former club should continue their pursuit for Maguire, however, telling ESPN: "I think Harry's a good player and over the last few years he's improved as a player.
"He's gotten better, and he's been a main player for Leicester City, but also for England. I think he'd be a good signing if they can get him."
Rooney, Man United and England's all-time record goalscorer, is currently plying his trade for DC United in Major League Soccer.
