Louis van Gaal snaps back at Gary Neville by telling him to "pay attention"

Louis van Gaal tells Gary Neville to "pay attention" to his own words after criticising Manchester United's performance against Southampton.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has taken a swipe at former club captain Gary Neville after the footballer-turned-pundit criticised the team's performance against Southampton.

On Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show, Neville claimed that United "got away with murder" after sealing a 2-1 triumph over the Saints at St Mary's.

While Van Gaal conceded that his side rode their luck at times, he responded to Neville's comments by telling reporters: "He can say everything because he is an ex-legend, but as an ex-legend or legend, you have to know what you are saying.

"You can interpret that how you like. It's not difficult. When I say that, he should pay attention to his words."

On Twitter, Neville was asked by a fan if there was a feud between himself and Van Gaal after it was mentioned by the press, but the ex-footballer replied: "One that will be created that doesn't exist."

Last night's result pushed United up to third in the Premier League table.
