Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was reportedly keen to bring Manchester United's Edinson Cavani to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
Despite playing an important role for the Red Devils in the 2020-21 season, the Uruguay international was linked with a return to South America during the most recent window.
However, United ultimately triggered Cavani's 12-month extension option, but the 34-year-old has found it difficult to get going this season due to injuries.
According to El Nacional, Klopp was keeping a close eye on Cavani's situation at Man United and was hoping to convince the striker to make the move to Merseyside before he committed himself to the Red Devils.
The report adds that Cavani will push for an exit in January, though, with Barcelona alerted to the possibility of signing the former Paris Saint-Germain star.
Cavani has just one goal from eight appearances in all competitions this term and boasts a total of 18 strikes from 47 games for Man United.
