Manchester United are reportedly planning a player-plus-cash offer for Tottenham star Gareth Bale that could set a new British transfer record at £55m.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to launch a £55m bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale and are willing to include any of three players in a part-exchange deal.

It has been suggested that The PFA Player of the Year will leave Spurs at the end of the season if they fail to secure Champions League football, although Bale has played down such rumours.

Newly-crowned champions United are apparently leading the Premier League interest in the 23-year-old and are understood to be preparing a big-money offer in the summer.

According to CaughtOffside.com, the Red Devils could also include either Ashley Young, Anderson or Nani as a makeweight in what would be a British record transfer.

It is thought that Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas could be open to the inclusion of a wide player such as Young or Nani, whose first-team places at Old Trafford will come under further pressure next season following the arrival of Crystal Palace youngster Wilfried Zaha.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona have also been linked with making a bid for Bale, who has netted 24 times in all competitions for the Lillywhites this campaign.
