Louis van Gaal expects David de Gea to stay at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is confident that David de Gea will still be at Old Trafford next season, despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that he believes goalkeeper David de Gea will stay at Old Trafford, despite the lure of Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a summer switch to the Bernabeu as a potential replacement for Iker Casillas, whose future with the Spanish giants remains unclear.

Some reports have claimed that De Gea has already agreed terms with Real, while other outlets have stated that the Spaniard is yet to make a decision regarding his future.

When asked in this afternoon's press conference if number two Victor Valdes can step in if the club lose their goalkeeper, Van Gaal told reporters: "First we have to wait and see if David de Gea is leaving, then we shall talk about other things. I believe still that David de Gea shall stay."

The goalkeeper was named United's Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year at the club's end-of-season awards on Tuesday.
