Napoli: 'We want three new players'

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis targets three new players in January, putting aside the funds for a defender, full-back and midfielder.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed that he will aim to sign three players when the transfer window reopens in January.

De Laurentiis said that after talks with Azzurri coach Rafael Benitez he is prepared to target new signings in three key areas of the squad, as Napoli chase their first Serie A title since 1990.

He told Radio Kiss Kiss: "We have a defender, a full-back and a midfielder on our list if we can find them.

"I have put my money to one side for these signings who we have already outlined. There are situations that could help us improve the squad."

The Azzurri enjoyed a productive summer in the transfer marker after selling Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain, parting with a club record £34.5m for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Benitez has used that investment to make a strong start to life at the San Paolo Stadium, with Napoli second in Serie A after amassing 19 points from eight matches.
