Former Real Madrid star Guti quits football

Former Real Madrid playmaker Guti announces his retirement from football and now aims to become a coach.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti announced his decision to retire from football and will now focus on becoming a coach.

The 35-year-old made the revelation on Friday, bringing an end to a career that started in 1995 with the Spanish giants.

"The decision has been made," Guti said in a statement on Marca. "I have received offers but I've decided to stop. I can now spend more time with my family.

"I'm going to train to become a sporting director or a coach and I'd like to train youngsters.

"I'd really like to coach the Real Madrid youth team. That's my dream."

Guti played for Madrid from 1995 to 2010, winning La Liga five times and the Champions League on three occasions.

He then joined Besiktas and won the Turkish Cup in 2010–11 before being released by the Istanbul giants in November last year. Guti had been without a club since then.
