Emmanuel Adebayor dedicates his two-goal haul in the 3-2 win over Southampton to his deceased brother.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has dedicated his brace in the 3-2 win over Southampton to his brother.

Tragedy struck in the summer during the club's pre-season tour of Hong Kong as the Togolese received news that his brother Peter had passed away.

The 29-year-old was subsequently given time off by Spurs, before falling out of favour at White Hart Lane under recently departed manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Adebayor has since been afforded more first-team opportunities under caretaker boss Tim Sherwood and the striker commemorated his recent upturn in fortunes to his departed sibling.

"All 2013 has been very tough. My brother passed away, it was emotionally difficult," he told BBC Sport.

"Everything I did today is for him and his son. My father told me to always work hard, and that paid off today."

The former Arsenal hitman scored his first goal of the season in the 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the Capital One Cup during the week.
