Mark Hughes: 'Marc Wilson likely to leave Stoke City'

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes suggests that defender Marc Wilson is likely to leave the Potters before the end of the transfer window.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has acknowledged that defender Marc Wilson does not feature in his plans for the new season.

After struggling for playing time during pre-season, Wilson voiced his frustration on social media and Hughes has admitted that the Republic of Ireland international is likely to leave the Britannia Stadium before the end of the transfer window.

The 52-year-old told reporters: "It's fair to say that sometimes players can be frustrated with a perceived lack of opportunity and that's the case with Marc.

"He's maybe expressed himself in the wrong way and it's fair to say that Marc probably feels his future lies elsewhere and it's fair to say I probably agree with him.

"So the likelihood is that if there's a deal to be done, Marc will take that opportunity and carry on his career elsewhere but that's not a consequence of anything said on social media, that's just his current situation."

Wilson has made 176 appearances in six years at the club.
