Niall Quinn: 'Sunderland should fear Newcastle United after Norwich City rout'

Sunderland are worried about their upcoming visit of bitter rivals Newcastle after the Magpies' 6-2 win over Norwich City, according to ex-Black Cat Niall Quinn.

Niall Quinn has told former club Sunderland that they should be worried about next week's Tyne-Wear derby after Newcastle United obliterated Norwich City on Sunday.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored four as the Magpies destroyed City 6-2 at St James' Park for their first Premier League win of the season, at the ninth time of asking.

In doing so, Steve McClaren's men ensured that the Black Cats are the only team left in the division yet to secure a win, with Sam Allardyce's bow ending in a 1-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

"Sunderland have to dig deep now," Quinn told Sky Sports News. "Sam will be required to get them into a different place, mentally.

"Newcastle are already in a great place going into it, and Sunderland will have to apply themselves to get there.

"Derby games are the sort of place where everything gets thrown out of the window, and it certainly won't be as place for the faint hearted. But if you were Sunderland, you'd be worried after today's result."

United sit 18th in the table, three points clear of the Black Cats in last place.
