Kew Jaliens, Adam Taggart fire Newcastle Jets to victory

Western Sydney Wanderers remain seven points adrift of Brisbane Roar at the top of the A-League after going down 2-0 to Newcastle Jets.

Western Sydney Wanderers failed to move within four points of Brisbane Roar at the top of the A-League after going down 2-0 to Newcastle Jets at the Parramatta Stadium.

Kew Jaliens edged the Jets ahead in the contest by heading an Andrew Poole cross past goalkeeper Ante Covic on 37 minutes.

Former England striker Emile Heskey produced a good pass to set up Adam Taggart on the hour mark, but the forward failed to beat Covic in a one-on-one.

However, the same combination proved effective shortly after. The 20-year-old latched onto Heskey's over-the-top ball before shooting his team's second of the contest courtesy of a deflection.

Tony Popovic's men failed to create the opportunities necessary to reduce the deficit and the Jets went on to record a comfortable win.
