Roberto Martinez has revealed that he will give a number of fringe players the opportunity to impress him during Wigan Athletic's League Cup tie with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
The Lactics recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday against Southampton but Martinez believes that it is time for other members of his squad to stake a claim for a spot in the starting lineup for future matches.
"You're going to see a lot of players given an opportunity to show what they can do and that is a competitive edge we have in this group," the Spaniard told reporters. "It's a great opportunity to share the demands.
"You've got a few players that have been working really well in pre-season and they've no reward yet and I think it's important that everyone is ready.
"It's an opportunity for some other players to show what they can do and show that they can have a massive say this season."
Wigan are rumoured to be interested in signing Lee Chung-Yong from Bolton Wanderers before the close of the transfer window on Friday.
