Rajiv van La Parra baffled by Wolverhampton Wanderers snub

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Rajiv van La Parra admits that he 'does not understand' exactly why he was used so sparingly this season prior to being sent to Brighton.

Rajiv van La Parra has claimed that he finds it a "mystery" why he was overlooked by Wolverhampton Wanderers before being sent out on loan.

The 24-year-old joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a short-term deal last week after being restricted to just seven appearances for Wolves this term.

It is a far cry from last season when Van La Parra, a free signing from Dutch side Heerenveen in 2014, was used 41 times in Wanderers' push for the Championship playoffs,

"The manager maybe wanted to try some different players but I cannot explain what happened," he is quoted as saying by the Express & Star. "It's unreal. I played last season and I then went onto the bench not playing as many games.

"I'm the type of person who goes to the manager and asked for an explanation why I wasn't playing. [Jackett] couldn't really give a reason but he motivated me by saying that I was close to the team and training well.

"That was keeping me positive about the manager and his opinion of me. At the end of the day, they were just words and not actions and I can just focus on playing now. It's a mystery. I didn't understand what happened but sometimes these things happen in football."

Van La Parra had been poised to join bottom side Bolton Wanderers before terms broke down at the last minute earlier this month.
