Walter Zenga defends managerial record after Wolverhampton Wanderers switch

Walter Zenga says that Wolverhampton Wanderers are not taking a risk by appointing him as their new head coach.

Walter Zenga has defended his managerial record after his arrival at Wolverhampton Wanderers was met with a mixed reception.

Zenga was the surprise choice to replace Kenny Jackett as the club's new head coach but despite having managed 16 clubs in 18 years with limited success, the former Italy goalkeeper insists that the Championship outfit have not taken a risk on him.

The 56-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "Why is it a risk? Don't take it from the internet that everything is right because the internet is a good thing in 2016 but it can also be the worst thing. Some things cannot be [written] in the right way.

"This is not the moment to explain the reasons why. Some time I can tell you I moved [from a job] because for sixth months I didn't receive a salary but the internet doesn't mention this.

"It doesn't matter how long. It's the result which depends on the length of the contract. If the coach is working well, this is the point. It's an amazing club and I will do my best to give my knowledge and passion to them."

Zenga begins his reign with an away fixture at Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon.
