Late James Clare double earns Castleford Tigers impressive draw

Two late tries from James Clare sees Castleford Tigers salvage an 18-18 draw with Hull FC at the KC Stadium.

James Clare bagged two tries in the closing six minutes as Castleford Tigers staged an impressive comeback and held Hull FC to an 18-18 draw at the KC Stadium tonight.

Fetuli Talanoa got the scoring underway for the hosts, touching down on 16 minutes as Jordan Rankin added the extras to open up a six-point lead.

The Tigers, who sit some three points behind leaders St Helens, responded well and Michael Shenton recorded their first of the evening, but Marc Sneyd failed to level up the scores after missing with the conversion.

Hull moved further ahead on the half-hour mark, as Jordan Abdull crossed over to give Lee Radford's side a 12-4 lead at the break.

The Airlie Birds retained that momentum after the interval and moved 14 points clear after just three minutes, with Kirk Yeaman adding yet another try, while the infallible Rankin continued to add the conversions.

The visitors threw themselves a lifeline as Sneyd touched down on 68 minutes, before scoring his own conversion to leave Cas eight adrift.

However, Daryl Powell's side displayed the kind of resilience that has seen them move third in the Super League, as Clare then bagged a double - with Sneyd failing to add the conversions - to snatch a point away from Hull.
