French flanker Imanol Harinordoquy has claimed that the Scottish offence "frightens" his side ahead of the Six Nations match between the two countries on Sunday.

Scotland only narrowly lost to England and were impressive against Wales, despite ultimately losing 27-13, and Harinordoquy is wary of the threat that Andy Robinson's men pose.

"Maybe the Scots frighten us offensively as the Irish scare us defensively. There are not many teams who are able to do that, hold the ball for four, five minutes," said the Frenchman.

"They move the ball quickly and move around a lot. It's still easier to have the ball than to defend.

"It takes a lot of energy [to defend] and we need to take the game by the throat and not let them advance down the field. Then it's up to us."

Harinordoquy was part of the French side that lost 8-7 to New Zealand in the final of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
