Sam Warburton expects to be fit for Wales' Six Nations opener

Sam Warburton is confident that he will be fit for Wales' Six Nations opener against Italy.

Wales captain Sam Warburton is confident that he will be fit for his side's Six Nations opening game against Italy.

The 25-year-old, who captained the British & Irish Lions last year, has been out of action since suffering shoulder nerve damage in November.

"I think I'll be available for selection," BBC Sport quotes Warburton as saying. "I need to have a chat with Warren Gatland and the medics early next week to decide what's the best thing to do, whether that be go back to my club first to play a game."

Wales will play Italy at the Millennium Stadium on February 1.
