Petra Kvitova battles into the second round of the French Open by beating Aravane Rezai in three sets.

Petra Kvitova has made it into the second round of the French Open with a 6-3 4-6 6-2 victory over Aravane Rezai.

The number seven seed was fairly matched by her opponent in the early stages of the contest, with games going by the way of serve.

Despite initially holding her serve well, Rezai relinquished her game to Kvitova, who took a stronghold of the contest with powerful forehands and quick returns across the clay court.

Both competitors were once again evenly matched at the start of the second set, but it was Rezai who managed to launch a comeback to take the match into a final and deciding set.

While Kvitova had been put on the back foot, she was able to regain composure to find another vital break of serve to push on and wrap up the match in three sets.
