Gilles Simon has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Jeremy Chardy.
The first set was a tight affair between the opponents, but Simon was able to go a break up in the fifth game.
Chardy initially saved three break points, but his fellow Frenchman was able to convert on the fourth to take the edge.
The single break was enough for Simon to grab a one-set lead and he was able to strike again in the fifth game of the second set.
Chardy was unable to recover and Simon broke again to take the set and wrap up the encounter.
