Andy Murray cruises into second round at Rio Oympics

Great Britain's Andy Murray begins the defence of his Olympic title with a straight-sets victory over Serbia's Viktor Troicki in Rio.

Great Britain's Andy Murray has booked his place in the second round of the Rio Olympics courtesy of a straight-sets victory over Viktor Troicki this evening.

The Wimbledon champion, who won gold in London four years ago, needed less than 90 minutes to see off his Serbian opponent 6-3 6-2.

Things didn't start well for the defending champion, though, as Troicki broke in the very first game of the contest to get Murray's Olympic campaign off to a shaky start.

Murray responded immediately with a break of his own, though, and one more victory against the serve in the sixth game of the opener was enough to put him in control of the contest.

Troicki avoided a break in the opening game of the second set, but Murray then reeled off five games in a row to move to the brink of victory.

The Serbian delayed his defeat by holding serve once more before going on to earn a break point in what proved to be the final game, but Murray held on to clinch the match at the first time of asking.
