Stanislas Wawrinka confident after "great" Wimbledon start

Stanislas Wawrinka claims that he has made a "great start" to his Wimbledon challenge after victory against Joao Sousa.

Fourth seed Stanislas Wawrinka has admitted that he is playing some of the best tennis of his career, after he got his Wimbledon campaign underway with a straight-sets win over Joao Sousa.

The French Open champion is attempting to become just the fifth player to win at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same summer, and he got off to good start with a 6-2 7-5 7-6 win.

He told BBC Sport: "It was a great start and I'm happy to win the first match here. The most important thing is to get through and I'll continue to work at my game. Winning the French Open has given me a lot of confidence for sure, but everyone starts from zero in this tournament.

"I'm going to rest up and be ready for the next game. I'm playing some of the best tennis of my career, every piece of the puzzle is fitting together and hopefully there's still more to come from me."

Wawrinka will play Victor Estrella Burgos in round two.
