Reigning champion Novak Djokovic has began the defence of his Wimbledon title with a 6-3 6-3 6-1 win over former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Spaniard Ferrero began the encounter brightly and looked to be about to cause a shock in the opening set when he broke Djokovic's serve at the first time of asking.
However, the current world number one broke back immediately before going on to wrap up the opening set.
Ferrero caused little threat to the Djokovic serve in the second set as the Serbian dropped just three games on his way to negotiating himself a two-set advantage.
That setback appeared to knock Ferrero's confidence as the veteran began to commit a number of unforced errors. Djokovic seized upon those mistakes to win the set in just under 30 minutes and book his place in round two.
