Mikel Arteta claims that Arsenal have been unlucky to have gone without a trophy for nearly seven years.

Mikel Arteta has claimed that Arsenal have been unlucky to have gone without a trophy for nearly seven years.

The Gunners last won honours in 2005 with an FA Cup final victory over Manchester United.

Despite the barren spell, Arteta believes that the club have maintained the right attitude throughout.

"When you are not winning at a club like Arsenal, obviously you are going to get criticism," Arteta told Sky Sports News.

"But the way is, how you respond. I think Arsenal have been unlucky in the last few years, getting to finals and not winning due to small details.

"Afterwards, it is easy to blame. What happens if Manchester United do not win the title? It is going to be a disaster for Manchester United."

Arteta is expected to feature for Arsenal when they host Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
