Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks with Ipswich Town over a loan deal for academy graduate Reiss Nelson, who has sat on the fringes of the Gunners squad recently.

Arsenal have reportedly entered advanced talks over a loan move for Reiss Nelson to Ipswich Town.

The 24-year-old graduated from the Gunners academy during 2017 and has enjoyed periods on the fringes of the first-team squad over the past seven years.

Nelson played a bit-part role in Arsenal's title push versus Manchester City last season, featuring in 15 Premier League matches across the 2023-24 term.

That being said, the winger only started the single game in the top flight for Mikel Arteta's side, earning a total of 257 minutes in the Premier League.

Alongside spells in the senior setup at Arsenal, Nelson has also gained first-team experience during loans at Hoffenheim in Germany and Feyenoord in the Netherlands.

Ipswich 'closing in' on Nelson loan

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal's Nelson could be moving across Premier League battlelines before the conclusion of the summer window.

The report claims that top-flight newcomers Ipswich are interested in securing the services of the Gunners star on loan for the 2024-25 campaign.

It is understood that Arsenal and the Tractor Boys are in advanced talks over a deadline-day deal, one which would see Nelson swap North London for East Anglia.

As well as boosting Ipswich's chances of avoiding relegation, the 24-year-old's switch to Kieran McKenna's side could have further implications on the Premier League transfer market.

With Arteta's troops moving Nelson out of the door, there could supposedly be room for Chelsea's Raheem Sterling to switch from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates.

Will Nelson shine at Ipswich?

After a season on the fringes of the squad in North London, a move to Ipswich could be just what the doctor ordered for Nelson's career.

At the age of 24, the Arsenal man will be desperate to cement himself as a regular starter in the Premier League, with a future England call-up surely an ambition for the attacker.

With Liam Delap set to lead the line for the Tractor Boys this season, Nelson has the ability to cause problems in an advanced-midfield role, a position assumed by the likes of Sammie Szmodics and Omari Hutchinson during the opening fortnight of Ipswich's top-flight return.
