Barcelona confirm Philippe Coutinho shirt number

Barcelona confirm that January signing Philippe Coutinho will take the departing Javier Mascherano's shirt number at Camp Nou.

Barcelona have confirmed that Philippe Coutinho has been given the number 14 shirt at Camp Nou.

Earlier this month, Coutinho completed a big-money transfer from Liverpool to the Catalan giants, but Barcelona held off giving the playmaker a shirt number.

Reports suggested that Coutinho would be handed the number 14 shirt once Javier Mascherano completed a transfer to Hebei China Fortune, and the La Liga leaders have acknowledged that the Brazilian international will now wear that number.

Despite spending two weeks at his new side, Coutinho is yet to make his debut as he continues to recover from a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old is expected to appear for the first at some stage over the next 10 days.
