New Barcelona deal for Luis Suarez 'imminent'

Barcelona will confirm that Luis Suarez has signed a new, six-year deal within the next few days, the club's president says.

Barcelona will announce that Luis Suarez has signed a new deal with the club within the next few days, according to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The 29-year-old moved to Camp Nou from Liverpool on a five-year deal in 2014 but is now thought to have agreed an extension to remain with the La Liga giants until 2022.

"We will renew with Suarez, there are only a few small details left," Bartomeu told a Uruguayan radio show.

"It will be announced in the coming days or weeks and could be a great Christmas present.

"The plan is to extend it for the maximum amount of time, up to 2022 to coincide with the Qatar World Cup."

As part of a frontline triumvirate including Lionel Messi and Neymar, Suarez has racked up 65 goals in 75 La Liga appearances since his arrival in Spain.
