Liverpool have reportedly opened talks over a deal to sign highly-rated midfielder Sandro Tonali from Brescia.
Tonali's performances for the Italian Serie B side this season are understood to have attracted the attention of a number of clubs around Europe.
The likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in the 18-year-old, but Liverpool are thought to be leading the race after Brescia chairman Massimo Cellino confirmed he had received contact from the Reds.
Gazzetta dello Sport now reports that Liverpool have firmed up their interest by making an official approach for the youngster.
The Premier League leaders are understood to have watched Tonali in action during the recent 4-4 draw with Spezia, when he opened the scoring for his side.
Tonali, who has been dubbed 'the new Andrea Pirlo' by some observers, has featured in all but one of Brescia's matches so far this season.
