Monday's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup: Thiago Alcantara, Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Monday, September 7.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Liverpool eye possible reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp's champions have not been particularly busy during recent windows, but that has not stopped the rumour mill from linking them with additions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Monday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Barcelona 'join Liverpool in Thiago Alcantara race'

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has allegedly emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona.

Despite maintaining that he is happy with life at the Allianz Arena, speculation persists regarding a potential move to Premier League champions Liverpool.

However, with less than a year left on his contract, reports in Spain are linking the 29-year-old with a return to Barcelona.

Between 2008 and 2013, the academy graduate made 80 appearances for the first team in all competitions, scoring six goals.

While club officials are said to be interested in signing Thiago, the report adds that Ronald Koeman's preferred addition is Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Merseyside giants are only likely to sell Wijnaldum to Barcelona if they win the race for Thiago.

Manchester United, Liverpool 'on red alert for Antoine Griezmann'

Manchester United and Liverpool are both reportedly monitoring the developments surrounding Antoine Griezmann as the Frenchman's Barcelona future has been thrown into fresh doubt.

Griezmann looked set for a main role for Barca next term with Lionel Messi seemingly on the way out.

Messi announced on Friday that he had reversed his decision to leave the club, though, meaning that Griezmann could be sold during this summer's transfer window to balance the books.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United and Liverpool are keeping an eye on developments, while Arsenal have also been credited with a potential interest in the 2018 World Cup winner.

The report, though, claims that Barca 'would have to accept a major loss' on Griezmann if they wish to move him on before the transfer deadline at the start of October.

The 29-year-old struggled to show his best form for the Catalan giants during the 2019-20 campaign, although he still managed 15 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions.

Griezmann, who missed a late penalty in France's 1-0 win over Sweden in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday night, has a contract at Camp Nou until June 2024.
