Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp rules out loan return for Steven Gerrard

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that Steven Gerrard is welcome to return to the club to train, but not to re-join on a loan deal during the MLS off-season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has ruled out welcoming back former captain Steven Gerrard on a loan deal from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gerrard, who spent 17 years of his career at Anfield after progressing through the youth ranks, joined the American side on an 18-month contract in July.

The 35-year-old midfielder is due to fly back to Merseyside to spend the MLS off-season at home, with reports that he could play once again for the Reds before returning to the United States in January.

However, in today's press conference, Klopp claimed that if Gerrard does return to Liverpool, it will be solely for training.

"All I can say is that I've had contact with Stevie - one phone call and a few messages," Klopp told reporters. "Absolutely if he wants to train our door is open, but nothing else."

It is believed that Galaxy also have no intention of allowing Gerrard to join another club on loan.
