Liverpool are reportedly preparing to rival Manchester United for Southampton defender Luke Shaw.
England international Shaw, 18, is expected to be a target for several of the Premier League's elite in the summer for his impressive performances on the South Coast.
After seemingly missing out on Leighton Baines, United manager David Moyes is believed to have made Shaw his number one target as he seeks a new left-back as part of his summer overhaul at Old Trafford.
However, The Express claims that Liverpool are planning to compete with United and Chelsea for the teenager's signature and are willing to pay his reported valuation of £30m.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has stressed that he will not splash unnecessary cash even if they do qualify for the Champions League, but is believed to be happy to make an exception for Shaw.
