Japan's Shinji Kagawa is adamant that his country still have a long way to go before they can claim to be a leading nation in world football.

Shinji Kagawa believes that Japan need to take "more risks" if they are to be considered a major international force.

Manchester United's Kagawa was part of the Japanese starting lineup that recorded a 1-0 victory over France last week.

However, Kagawa feels that further improvements are needed before his nation is ready to compete with the bigger countries on a regular basis.

"When you play against the best teams you need to take more risks," he said.

"We still don't take enough risks. We've got to rise to the challenge of the top teams."

Japan are due to take on five-time World Cup winners Brazil tomorrow evening.
