Bayern Munich sporting director: 'Bastian Schweinsteiger future unclear'

Bayern Munich chief Matthias Sammer claims that Bastian Schweinsteiger's rumoured switch to Manchester United 'cannot be ruled out' at this stage.

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has refused to rule out a summer exit for midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, admitting that "nothing is excluded".

The World Cup winner, who has just 12 months left to run on his current deal, has been repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United during the off-season.

Schweinsteiger recently revealed that winning more trophies in Bavaria was something that appealed to him, but Sammer concedes that the player's future is still unclear.

"Basically, nothing is excluded," he is quoted as saying by Goal.com. "It's a crazy world. He has clearly expressed that he is an important part of the team, but let's see. We're still waiting.

"Basti is a very important player to Bayern Munich but there are a few things to consider. We have noticed the speculation going around in public but we'll just have to wait. You can't rule anything out in the transfer window.

"Basti himself has spoken clearly. He's a very important part of the team. That's all I can tell you at the moment."

United boss Louis van Gaal has previously managed Schweinsteiger during his time in charge of Bayern.
