Newcastle United are reportedly involved in a battle with Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Hugo Ekitike.
The 20-year-old has caught the eye of numerous clubs after enjoying a successful season in Ligue 1, scoring nine goals in 23 league appearances for Reims this term.
It has been previously reported that Manchester United were to make an inquiry for the striker, but a recent report suggests that Newcastle and Dortmund are involved in a two-horse race.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano Newcastle United have been working on signing the 20-year-old since January, and they remain interested in acquiring his services in the summer transfer window.
However, Dortmund are also showing an interest, as they look to replace Erling Braut Haaland, who has already agreed to join Manchester City.
Ekitike has been with Reims for two years, and his current contract with the Ligue 1 side runs until June 2024.
