Gonzalo Higuain: 'Too early for Napoli title talk'

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain rejects talk that his side should view next week's clash with Serie A leaders Roma as a decisive clash so early in the campaign.

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has attempted to play down his side's chances of lifting their first Serie A title since 1990.

The Azzurri have adapted quickly to life under new coach Rafael Benitez, taking 19 points from a possible 21 to sit second in Serie A, just behind 100% starters Roma.

Benitez's men take on Roma in an early clash between title rivals next Friday, but Higuain believes that the game will be important rather than decisive to their Scudetto hopes.

He told reporters: "Yet, it is indisputable that it will be an important game, capable of sending an additional signal, but nothing more, it is not final.

"The season is very long, there is no eventuality that will change my mind, whatever happens. We need to at least wait until the end of the first half of fixtures to sense the true forces and then even that may not be enough.

"But anyway, I am generally not accustomed to the interest of others, I am thinking about my team, to improve, to grow through training."

Higuain has wasted little time in making his mark at the Stadio San Paolo, scoring four times in seven appearances for Napoli in all competitions.
