Report: Mike Ashley sends message of support to Steve McClaren

Mike Ashley sends a message of support to Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren, according to reports.

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has sent a message of support to manager Steve McClaren.

The Toon are yet to win this season, but drew 2-2 against Chelsea on Saturday.

Ashley is reported to have sent a two-word text message during the week to McClaren which read 'Stay strong.'

"Mike is a man of few words but the message sums up his feelings," a source told the Mirror.

"Sacking his head coach is not on the radar. What would be the point?

"His view is that McClaren is his head coach and he has the backing to do what he has to, to put things right. Ashley's business success is built on loyalty. Don't forget, when Alan Pardew was being attacked last season, Mike stood by him."

Newcastle will continue their hunt for a first win at Manchester City next Saturday.
