Real Madrid are allegedly preparing to offer one of their more experienced players a new contract.

Real Madrid have reportedly taken a difference stance regarding the future of one of their defenders.

Los Blancos are currently on course for a La Liga and Champions League double having already secured the former at the weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have enjoyed a terrific campaign where they have suffered just one defeat in Spain's top flight and possess a stellar defensive record of just 22 goals conceded in 34 matches.

That has come despite the likes of Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and David Alaba missing large chunks of the season due to serious knee injuries.

If reports are to be believed, Real are looking to bolster their options in defence during the summer, particularly their left-back role.

Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies has just over one year remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena and is seemingly being targeted to hold down that role from 2024-25 onwards.

Real Madrid change Mendy stance?

With just over a year left on his own contract, speculation has persisted that Ferland Mendy could be the player to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in order to make way for the Canada international.

However, according to 90min, Ancelotti and Real Madrid are interested in handing Mendy fresh terms as soon as possible.

The report claims that the 28-year-old has impressed during the second half of the season, convincing key figures that he still has a future at the club.

As per Marca, Ancelotti has made a big push to retain Mendy's services, who he believes possesses the necessary defensive attributes to continue in his role.

If Mendy was to stay at Real, it is unclear whether Real would still be prepared to pay a substantial fee to acquire the services of Davies.

How often has Mendy played this season?

Mendy has started just over half of Real's La Liga fixtures this season, featuring in the starting lineup on 19 occasions.

The Frenchman also has seven starts and two substitute outings in the Champions League, while he has made a positive impact in recent weeks, completing the 210 minutes against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Real may still decide that they require another face for the left-back, role, though even with Eduardo Camavinga and David Alaba, when fit, as options, as well as Fran Garcia.
