A late fightback has earned the San Jose Earthquakes a 2-2 draw against the Portland Timbers at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The hosts started the game well and could have been ahead when Sam Cronin found space on the edge of the area but Joe Bendik reacted well to push the midfielder's shot away from goal.
Despite being forced to defend for long periods of the first period, Portland took the lead on the brink of half-time thanks to a superb finish from Danny Mwanga after good work by Rodney Wallace.
The Earthquakes spurned numerous opportunities to level the scores after the interval, with Mehdi Ballouchy having a torrid night in front of goal before being put out of his misery in the 58th minute when he was substituted.
Mwanga added a second just minutes later with a spectacular long-range strike that Jon Busch could only watch fly into the top corner.
San Jose pulled a goal back through Chris Wondolowski to force a dramatic finish and the comeback was complete with virtually the last kick of the game.
Wondolowski found space inside the area to powerfully head home an equaliser to complete an enthralling contest.
