Martin O'Neill is hopeful that Nicklas Bendtner can return to action for Sunderland in the FA Cup this weekend.

Martin O'Neill has said that he is hopeful that Nicklas Bendtner can return to action for Sunderland when they face Everton in the FA Cup this weekend.

Bendtner suffered a twisted knee and had to be stretchered off the pitch after scoring the winner in the Black Cats' 1-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday.

"We are monitoring Nicklas on a daily basis and he'll be re-assessed towards the end of the week," O'Neill said.

"I'll genuinely have a look at this partnership with Fraizer [Campbell].

"We'll try and conjure something up, but I think the two of them can show they go together."

Sunderland are currently eighth in the Premier League with 37 points from 28 games.
