Billie Jean King labels twirl requests "sexist"

Former Grand Slam champion Bille Jean King is angry at the "sexist" interviewer who has asked Serena Williams and Eugenie Bouchard to twirl for the crowd.

Billie Jean King has criticised a male interviewer for asking female tennis players to twirl at the Australian Open.

Players such as Serena Williams and Eugenie Bouchard have been asked by the interviewer to "give a twirl" after their recent matches, and King has labelled it as "sexist".

"The Australian Open interviewer asking the women to twirl on court is out of line," King wrote on Twitter.

"This is truly sexist. If you ask the women, you have to ask the guys."

Serena Williams admitted that she felt uncomfortable with the request, while Bouchard added that it was "very unexpected".

King is a 12-time former Grand Slam champion.
