Arsene Wenger pleased by Arsenal's 'fighting spirit' in Brighton win

Arsene Wenger admits that seeing the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur crash out of the FA Cup inspired his side against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that his side were inspired to progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup following a number of big upsets yesterday afternoon.

The Gunners edged out Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2 at The Amex earlier this evening to navigate their passage into the next stage of the competition.

It comes just 24 hours after the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton were each knocked out at home, while Manchester United were also forced to settle for a replay in their tie against Cambridge United.

Speaking after his side's victory, Wenger told BBC Sport: "It was hard work. A typical cup tie where the other team never gives up. We had to fight until the end but overall we were always leading and missed a few chances as well.

"The results from yesterday maybe got us on our toes and we got off to a quick pace, and I think that surprised Brighton. It is too early to say if we can win the FA Cup, there is such a long way to go."

The draw for the next round takes place on Monday evening.
