Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has allegedly been given the go-ahead to table a £40m bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
The club's board has given the Frenchman a £70m transfer war chest along with permission to meet the Uruguayan's release clause, The Mirror reports.
Wenger has already had a bid for Suarez rejected, but the player would have the opportunity to discuss terms with any club that meets his release clause.
Suarez's agent Pere Guardiola is believed to have advised Arsenal to place an offer in the region of £40m to the Merseysiders to secure the forward's services.
Suarez scored 30 goals for Liverpool last season and was voted the club's Player of the Year.
