Rio Ferdinand expects Arsenal and Barcelona-linked Raheem Sterling to leave Manchester City if his playing situation does not improve.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that Raheem Sterling will leave Manchester City amid links with Barcelona and Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has struggled to displace Jack Grealish on the left-hand side this term, starting just two of his side's seven Premier League games so far in the 2021-22 campaign.

Barcelona and Arsenal have both been tipped to move for Sterling - whose deal is up in 2023 - and Ferdinand does not expect his compatriot to remain at the Etihad - or in the Premier League - for much longer.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: "I will say it now. If he continues like this, Raheem will not be there next season. He can't sit on the bench, he is not that type of guy.

"He is a winner, he wants to win. Tottenham can't get in the mix, Arsenal can't get in the mix with a Sterling right now."

Sterling has only claimed one goal and one assist from 10 appearances in all competitions this season, and cash-strapped Barcelona supposedly do have the money to sign the ex-Liverpool starlet should he become available.
