Lille striker Salomon Kalou insists that he made the right decision in leaving Chelsea in the summer.

Lille striker Salomon Kalou has revealed that the desire for a new challenge was the reason for leaving Chelsea last summer.

Kalou was part of the Chelsea squad that won the Champions League in May, but after six years at Stamford Bridge, the Ivory Coast international felt that it was the perfect time to leave England.

The 27-year-old told Australian FourFourTwo magazine: "My dream coming into Chelsea was coming into a big club and making history at the club.

"There was nothing better than that, and I think we left at the right moment - that's when you win everything at a club like Chelsea - it's good to go and look for something else."

The former Feyenoord attacker scored 60 goals in 251 appearances at Chelsea.
