Flamengo director Zinho has revealed that the Brazilian club are interested in signing former Boca Juniors midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme.
The 34-year-old confirmed earlier this week that he would be leaving the Argentine side following their defeat to Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores final.
Despite admitting that he had made a bid for Werder Bremem midfielder Diego, Zinho claimed that he had only spoken to Riquelme's agent.
"Riquelme? I have not made any offer for him. The only concrete offer is for Diego," he told reporters.
"But it is obvious that Riquelme is a player we are interested in. I would open Flamengo's doors to him.
"I have spoken with his agent after seeing the news [that he had quit Boca] and I asked if it was possible to sign him."
The four-time Argentine Footballer of the Year returned to the club in 2008 after a previous six-year spell with the club.
