Liverpool's Suso "very sorry" for Twitter comments

Liverpool teenager Suso says that he is "very sorry" for Twitter comments that today saw him land a £10,000 fine from the FA.

Liverpool's young Spanish winger Suso has apologised for Twitter comments that were today punished by the Football Association.

Suso, 19, was handed a £10,000 fine by the FA for calling teammate Jose Enrique "gay" on the social networking site.

The teenager took to Twitter to apologise this evening, writing: "I'm very sorry if anyone has been offended by my comments about the photo of my teammate Jose Enrique.

"It was only a joke between the two of us. I realise that my words were unfortunate and it was not my intention to offend anyone."

Fellow Spaniard Enrique slammed the FA's sanction, describing his teammate's punishment as "amazing" for what he had regarded as "banter".

"Is amazing how FA can fine my friend Suso Fernandez for a banter thing. Was just a joke!!!" wrote the left-back on Twitter.

Suso, who has made 13 appearances for the Reds this season, signed a new long-term contract at Anfield in October.
