Teenage star Matthijs de Ligt 'drops huge Liverpool hint'

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt opens the door on a move to Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has opened the door on a move to Liverpool in this summer's transfer window.

Despite only turning 19 at the start of this season, De Ligt has already made over 100 first-team appearances for Ajax.

The centre-back, who is a 13-time Netherlands international, will see his current contract in Amsterdam expire in June 2021.

Barcelona have been strongly linked with a move for De Ligt, but the teenager has insisted that he would be open to joining Liverpool due to the presence of Dutch teammate Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

"Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues. Of course you want to learn from him. It's very useful to play next to him in the Dutch team," De Ligt told Goal.com.

"It could happen. He plays for Liverpool. A nice club. But I'm not focused on this. I focus on Ajax. And then I will see where I will end up."

De Ligt captained Ajax in their 4-1 win away to Real Madrid last week, which saw the Dutch giants book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
