Inter Milan start discussions with Nicolo Barella over a new long-term deal at San Siro, according to a report.

Inter Milan have reportedly started discussions with Nicolo Barella over a new long-term deal at San Siro.

The 24-year-old, who has recently been linked with Liverpool, has started the 2021-22 campaign in impressive form at club level, scoring once and providing five assists in nine appearances in all competitions.

Barella still has three years left to run on his deal at San Siro, but a number of clubs are believed to be interested in signing the Italy international.

According to Sky Italy, Inter are in talks with the midfielder over a new deal, and the Serie A champions are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the near future.

Providing an update on the situation, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Inter are not panicking due to the length of Barella's current deal, but the club are keen to reward him for his impressive form.

The midfielder has scored eight times and registered 26 assists in 96 appearances for Inter in all competitions.
