Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has declared that his team need to evoke the spirit of last season's win over Newcastle United this weekend.
City travel to St James' Park looking to bounce back from a last-gasp loss to title rivals Manchester United.
Roberto Mancini's men won on Tyneside in the penultimate game of last reason, a result that led to their title triumph a week later.
Kompany believes that City must focus on the positives that a victory over the Magpies would provide.
He said: "We can't dwell on the fear of negatives. For me, there are so many positives that can happen if we win that game, I can't think of the other side of that coin.
"We all know the importance of this game now, but I don't do very well in bad scenario thinking. I'm just glad we have the chance to prove ourselves again.
"Newcastle away is just as difficult as the derby game, but nothing comes easy in the Premier League. It's a chance for us to prove what we are made of. And remember, it's also a tough game for Newcastle as well."
City trail United by six points at the top of the Premier League following last Sunday's dramatic derby defeat.
